Easy Steps for Effective Email Spam Prevention

email spam preventionEmail spam prevention is of significant importance for online business owners. Not only deleting a large number of spam email messages is very time consuming but certain spam emails also present data protection threat. The good news is that effective email spam prevention is possible in only a few easy steps.

In order to stop receiving unsolicited email messages, first of all you should take steps towards preventing spam robots from harvesting your email addresses. Spammers use special software that craws web pages and looks for the “@” symbol. Once they detect it, they “harvest” the email address.

To avoid that you should simply stop publishing your email addresses on your web pages. You can either use contact forms instead of publishing complete email addresses or use [at] instead of the “@” symbol. Furthermore, if you are unsure that you removed all email addresses from your web pages, you can use Google search to check that – simply put an email address in the search box and click search. If Google can find an email address, any spam-bot will also be able to do so.

The second most common type of spam is the so called virus spam. Basically, spammers deploy a virus that infects somebody’s computer and sends messages to all the emails in theirs contact book. If your email address in there, you will also receive spam messages. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to prevent or stop this type of spam.

Another approach to effective email spam prevention is to use some type of anti-spam software. Essentially, these tools filter all incoming emails and detect which email is spam and which is “OK”. The spam email messages will automatically go to the “spam” or the “trash” folder of your email client.

Following these easy steps may not totally eliminate spam but will drastically reduce the number of spam emails you are receiving. It is a good idea to find out how to report email spam to the authorities in your country in case you receive any unsolicited emails. Also, remember never to open or reply neither to spam emails nor to click on any links contained in the messages.
